It had been a while since I'd been down 56th between Third & Second, and I was pleased to see again the carved lintels of some of the buildings on the northern side. In this part of Sunset Park, close to Lutheran Hospital, the blocks between Third & Second, unlike those farther north, are almost entirely residential rather than mixed use, with a substantial number of sturdy brick rowhouses. There's more retail on Second around here too, accommodating visitors and hospital staff. There's even a cafe with outdoor seating right around the corner of 56th
The lintels on these small apartment buildings are quite beautiful. I'm wondering if these were mostly Swedish built?
