Underneath

It's been bugging me for years that I accidentally deleted pictures of this house on 12th Street before it got its stucco job.  So yes, it's time for a Google journey back to ... well not very far at all really... 2011.  And let's make it summer.

Here it is with its fishtail shingles on display, looking much as it might have done a hundred years earlier rather than four.  The shingles can't be original, surely. but they must have seen a good few decades.  Without that stucco the house is a weather-beaten beauty. I don't know how old it is, but it's right there on the block on an 1880 map of Brooklyn.  Maybe 1860s?
Under the surface, on so many streets, so many secret histories.
