(still quite warm)
I walked by last night at around 6:45 p.m. and the store was all lit up, inside and out, as if open for business. The butcher's paper that occluded the view on the 12th St. side of the building had been removed, but the front gate was still down. (The two outdoor J, B & J signs were also illuminated.) I passed the building a second time about a half-hour later and took a closer look inside, and while I didn't see anyone in the store, signs of recent activity were manifest in the deli area. The case appears to have been cleaned out—that must have been a nasty bit of business—and there were buckets and rags on the floor between the registers and the beverage section. While it may take another week or so to clear out all the perishables and expired dry goods and re-stock the place anew, it definitely appears as if they're on track to re-open by Dec. 1—almost two months to the day everything came to a sputtering, fly-specked halt.
Thank you! Let's hope they really will be "better than ever" when they reopen!!
