Happy Anniversary 657-665 Fifth Avenue. The SWO has been in effect for two years this month, all works permits have expired and the lower portion of the property, on the Fifth side, remains open to the elements. No-one's expecting any action anytime soon.

An uncomplicated search of Atlas of the Borough of Brooklyn, 1903, and the Brooklyn Eagle archives shows Hartung's furniture store in the building as early as 1891, with the 2nd floor "Hartung's Hall", a meeting hall mentioned through 1951. The "proposed" rendering looks cute; the large arched windows must have been grand!
