Fifth & 18th: 1941




















Here are two Percy Loomis Sperr photographs from 1941. They were taken at Fifth and 18th Street, looking north, right around the time the Fifth Avenue El was dismantled. The photograph above was taken in September, and the one below in November. If you look carefully, you can see White Eagle Market signs on the white building at left.  White Eagle was the Polish grocery store that preceded Eagle Provisions.  I can't make out the names of any of the other businesses, but am pleased to catch a glimpse of this one.
