42nd Street (Brooklyn)

Traces of the building's original inhabitant  - Shipley Construction Supply Co., manufacturer of refrigerating machinery - remain above the doorway at 225-229 42nd Street.   The earliest I found the company listed at this address was in 1920.  The building, between Second and Third, has more recently housed Ace used office furniture and several nouveau-Brooklyn incarnations of older trades: a natural soap-making business, a custom-made carpentry company, and the Global Insecurities Corporation, a printing and metal fabrication business that seems ominous in name only.
